Looking for a Contractor Near You?

How to check out whoever you hire — and where we come to.

The short answer

If you searched “contractor near me” you are going to get a map with three businesses on it and a page of directories. Before you call any of them, check three things: that the registration is current at Washington L&I, that the bond and insurance are active, and that they will put a free estimate in writing. That takes about two minutes and it eliminates most of the risk in hiring a contractor.

How to check a contractor near you — including us

  1. Get the registration number. Washington law requires it in advertising. If they will not give you one, that is the end of the conversation. Ours is BUILDEI913RS.
  2. Look it up. Search it at secure.lni.wa.gov/verify. You will see registration status, bond amount and insurance. Thirty seconds.
  3. Ask for a free written estimate. Not a number on a business card. Scope separated from materials, with contingencies written down for anything that cannot be known until demolition.
  4. Ask a technical question. For a bathroom: do you flood-test the shower pan, and for how long? The answer tells you a great deal very quickly. Here is why that question works.
  5. Check that the address is real. A great many contractor listings are lead-generation companies that sell your details to three other firms.

Are we near you?

We are based in Renton and we come to you. Travel is handled in how we schedule, not added to your estimate.

Closest to our shop — we can usually start earlier and return the same day for a punch-list item: Renton, Kent, Covington, Maple Valley, Newcastle, Tukwila, SeaTac, Des Moines.

Regular working range: Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Issaquah, Shoreline, Everett, Lynnwood, Tacoma, Puyallup and the rest of King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.

Scheduled as continuous runs — better suited to multi-room and whole-interior projects: Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton, Gig Harbor, Anacortes, Mount Vernon, Camano Island.

Full list: all 58 service areas.

What “near me” actually returns

Worth knowing how the results you are looking at are built. The map box at the top is ranked mostly on proximity to you, review count and how complete the business profile is — not on who is best. Below it, the first several results are usually Houzz, Angi, Thumbtack and Yelp, which are directories that sell your inquiry to several contractors at once.

Neither of those is a quality signal. The two-minute license check above is worth more than all of it.

Common Questions

Questions we get

How do I find a good remodeling contractor near me?

Get the Washington registration number, look it up at L&I to confirm registration, bond and insurance are current, ask for a free written estimate rather than a single number, and ask one technical question about how they build the thing you are hiring them for.

Are you near me?

We are based in Renton and work across King, Snohomish, Pierce, Kitsap, Skagit and Island counties — 58 cities. Travel is handled in scheduling and does not appear on your estimate. If you are in Kitsap, Skagit or Island County we schedule as continuous runs, which suits multi-room work better than a single small repair.

Do you charge more if I am further away?

No. Travel is part of how we schedule the work, not a line item on your invoice.

Why are the top results for 'contractor near me' all directories?

Because Houzz, Angi, Thumbtack and Yelp buy and optimize for those terms, then sell your inquiry to several contractors at once. It is not a ranking of quality. Checking the L&I registration yourself is a better filter.

Can you come out for a small job?

Close to Renton, usually yes. Further out we batch smaller work into a scheduled run. Call and we will tell you honestly whether we are a sensible fit rather than wasting your time.
